International Master K Rathnakaran beat Ukraine Grandmaster Georgy Timoshenko to take the sole lead with 5.5 points after the completion of sixth round of the 1st SCS International Open GM Chess Tournament at hostel Swosti Plaza here today.
Fourteen players, including 11 Grandmasters shared the second place with five points apiece. Top seed and Grandmaster Sergei Tiviakov (Netherlands) was held to a draw by Russia GM Sergey Vokarev.
Host Orissa continued to experience mixed luck with IM Swayangsu Satyapragyan (4)going down to Ukraine GM Yuriy Kuzubov, while but IM Sekhar Chandra Sahu (4) getting the batter of Hamal Manish of Nepal.
Fide Master Soumya Ranjan Mishra, Anwesh Upadhyaya and Debasish Das led the Orissa campaign with 4.5 points each. Mishra beat his statemate Biswajeet Nayak, Upadhyaya held International Master MR Venkatesh to a draw and Das crushed ML Abhilash Reddy.
