Srinath upsets Kazakh GM Anuar

Bhubaneswar, June 9: 

Five players shared the lead with four points each after the completion of fourth round of the 1 st SCS International Open GM Chess Tournament at hotel Swosti Plaza here on Tuesday.

The leaders included two foreign Grandmasters (Igor Kurnosov, Georgy Timoshenko) and three Indian International Masters (Narayanan Srinath, MR Lalith Babu, SP Sethuraman). Narayanan Srinath caused an upset by defeating Kazakhstan Grandmaster Anuar Ismagabetov, but top seed Sergei Tiviakov (Netherlands) bounced back to joint second place with win over IM Subhrajit Saha (India).

Host Orissa players experienced mixed luck with overnight joint leader IM Sekhar Chandra Sahu going down to MR Lalith Babu. But youngsters Debasish Das and Anwesh Upadhyaya posted creditable draws against Ukraine Grandmasters Yuriy Kuzubov and Alexander Zubarev.

Biswajit Nayak kept the Orissa flag flying with a thumping win over IM Vishal Sareen. He now leads the home campaign with 3.5 points.
