Rakesh, Sovna emerge state u-11 chess
champions
Rakesh Kumar Jena
and Sovna Sonali Jena bagged a double
for Cuttack, winning the boys and girls
titles respectively in the State
Under-11 Chess Championship, which
concluded at Youth Hostel in Puri today.
In the boys category, Rakesh topped the
table with 6.5 points from seven rounds,
while Sourav Mohanty finished runner-up
with 5.5 points.
In the six-round girls’ category, Sovna
took the title with five points, while
Sweeta Senapati occupied the second
position with 4.5 points. Kalinga Chess
Academy director Shibabrata Dash gave
away the prizes at the closing function.
The top two finishers in each category
qualified to represent Orissa in the
National under-11 championship to be
held at Chennai next month.
