
Padmini Rout of ODISHA won the bronze medal in the World Junior Girls Chess Championship that concluded at Poland on August 16.
Anna Muzychuk of Slovenia won the event with 11/13 after scoring a final round victory. Russia's Olga Girya won the silver medal with a final round draw to end on 10.5 points.

Padmini who drew higher rated WGM Cori Tello of Peru finished clear third with 10 points. Bhakti Kulkarni of Goa scored three points from the last four rounds to finish fifth with nine points. Bodda Pratyusha finished above her rating expectancy with 6.5 points and 43rd place.

Dmitry Andreikin and Sanan Sjugirov of Russia tied for the first place and won the gold and silver medal in the World Junior. Dariusz Swiercz of Poland took the bronze medal on 9 points.

Among the Indian boys, Debashis Das, Anwesh Upadhyaya, Sagar Shah, Arun Karthik played better than expected. The next World Junior, the prestigious 50th edition, will be held at Chennai in 2011.
