Eighty-five
players, including top seed and Fide
Master Soumya Ranjan Mishra posted wins
in the first round, which featured a
total of 191 entries, including 50 rated
and 13 from outside Orissa. The
nine-round tournament, offering a total
cash prize of Rs 50,000 is being hosted
by Kalinga Chess Academy, under the
aegis of Orissa Chess Ad-hoc Committee.
Two times National `B` champion Pabitra
Mohan Mohanty suffered a major upset
when when down to Cuttack boy Saswat
Khuntia in the opening round of the 1st
Kalinga Open All-India Rating Chess
Tournament at OAS Association Bhawan in
Bhubaneswar today.
